Please read the description below and contact Dr. Adam Gazzaley if you are interested in applying.
FULL-TIME STAFF RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Research Assistant)
Job Description: Work in a cognitive neuroscience lab integrating the techniques of functional MRI (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to study how brain region interactions underlie cognitive processes, such as attention and memory. There is a strong focus on understanding how these networks change with normal aging. Studies will also involve pharmacological interventions, cognitive training interventions and involvement of patient populations. fMRI will be conducted at the recently established UCSF Neuroscience Imaging Center (NIC) and EEG and TMS will be performed in the Gazzaley lab, located at the new Mission Bay campus.
Job Responsibilities: Assume an integrated role in all aspects of the data collection and analysis. Data collection involves the enrollment and tracking of subjects, preparation of experimental materials, independent collection of data using a variety of techniques (fMRI, EEG, TMS and behavioral testing), and the maintenance of database. Data analysis is performed independently, and includes the use of established programs (e.g, SPM and Analyzer), as well as the development of new analytical approaches, mostly using Matlab.
Required Qualifications: BA/BS in psychology, neuroscience, bioengineering or related science; previous research experience in this field (particularly conducting fMRI and/or EEG experiments); working knowledge of MS Windows and Mac OS; computer programming skills, specifically the ability to design and write scripts in Matlab; good organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently as well as with others; ability to handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines; interest in learning brain structure- function relationships and working with neurological patients.
